The Sacred Kingfisher

Added on by Jack Randell.

The Sacred Kingfisher Mural was conceived as a way of telling a small part of the story of Narromine. The little Kingfisher is a brightly colored, fast flying bird that you might see at the wetlands or down by the river. He is of the same family as the Kookaburra.

The Kingfisher was suggested as a subject for a mural at community design workshops held at Narromine Sports Centre during the July 2025 school holidays. Once the design was settled on, we made plans to have everyone come back and help paint it during the October. The mural was launched to great acclaim by Aunty Ruth Carney and Mayor Ewan Jones.

The project was funded by the NSW Government through Create NSW, and supported by Narromine Shire Council and ArtClubDub. FishdogJack has special thanks to the Narromine community mural making program participants.
