Jack Randell is a visual artist working in drawing, painting, digital media and video. He has exhibited Japan, Spain and Australia. His work is in held public and private collections. He is interested in contour, line and edges of systems. He lives and works in Dubbo, on Wiradjuri Country, in South-Eastern Australia.

Recent works are multi-valent, no single viewpoint. The subject is studied several times (drawn, photographed, filmed, researched) and then composited as a non-contiguous impression. The resulting images are inter-subjective, presenting the idea that the privileged viewpoint may longer be valid.

Jack has taught art programs in custodial settings for a number of years. In 2019 he entered and won this inaugural prize with a composite portrait of some of the prisoners he had taught and got to know. While the portrait looks like an individual, it is not a likeness of anyone in particular, hence the title “Anyman”. But for the grace of God, there go you or I.
